Under 14s Match Report 29th October

Johnstown 4 Summerhill Parkceltic  4
Johnstown started this game in determined fashion  somehow knowing a battle was brewing. For the first 20 minutes we left this robust Parkceltic side chasing shadows.
Some very slick passing down the left flank from Mikey Leddy  and Adam Quinn who put Ronan Maxwell through on goal didn’t need a second invitation to put his first past the keeper 1-0. Ronan went on to score a second to take advantage of our dominance in that first half 2-0.
Half time talk was centered on keeping things tight and moving the ball fast. Our back four came in for some heavy artillery bombardment from the Parkceltic midfield particularly Jacko and Adam Boylan doing their best to repel the attacks alas two goals were conceded  in quick concession 2-2.
With 20 minutes to go Parkcetic where buoyed by their two quick goals.  hey pushed on, but it was a very foolish  thing to leave the deadly trio of Adam Quinn, Mikey Leddy and Ronan Maxwell to roam their defensive lines.  They took full advantage of the space behind them and it was Mikey who  dispatched not one but two goals in quick time 4-2.
But Parkceltic responded with a quick attack down the left 4-3 and then they got a fourth with 9 mins to go.
Special mention to Ciaran Vaughan and Riley Symonds who carried the water in midfield to free up our attacking players .
Well done also to Alex our 2nd goalkeeper who did well as last minute replacement.  Another granite like game for the candy stripes who are enjoying the battles in this tough premier league.

U14s Premier Match Report 8th October 2016

U14S PREMIERE Navan Town 1 – Johnstown 5
Johnstown travelled the short distance to Navan Towns new ground determined to keep up their good run of results in the premiere league.
The hosts started well in some neat passing but as soon as the Johnstown lads got a grip on the game there was no way back.
Herdy started the goal rout with his energetic self down the left 1-0. Next up Walshie sent a low driven ball from outside the box and gave the goalkeeper no chance 2-0.  Then the third just before half time came from Clarkie on the right with a sublime shot from 30 yards our contender for goal of the season.
3-0 at half-time  the coaching staff reminded the lads to keep the tempo up and focus on the job in hand.
An indirect free kick in the Johnstown box led to Navan Town getting a good goal high in the top corner 3-1.  Johnstown controlled the midfield well with captain Riley and Nathan Carton ever so strong in everything they did.
Walshie stepped up to get his second goal with a crisp shot tucked into the corner from a back heel from Mikey Leddy 4-1.  The last goal came via a penalty in which was neatly dispatched by Ben a nice gift to get on  his birthday 5-1.
A good day at the office for the candy stripes was followed by a double birthday celebration for Craig and Ben at the final whistle.   big thanks to Sharon for organising this, our very own social events planner!

Under 14 Match Report 24th September

Johnstown FC 2 Parkvilla 3.
A third week in a row the U14s had to ply their trade in rain and sapping conditions but this didn’t stop them from offering up an epic performance against the Parkvilla A team.
Nip and tuck in the early exchanges
Parkvilla had good chances early on but couldn’t finish.  With on O/G to their name and a good goal on the break villa were good going in for the tea.
With no changes made Johnstown came back on determined not to let the visitors have their own way.  Mikey Leddy combined well with Adam Quinn and put the villa defence on their toes.  We started to make some powerful drives into the villa box slowly Johnstown began to carve out chances.
A careless trip on Herdy who was always a threat on the left  led to a Johnstown free kick in which Ronan Maxwell dispatched a rasping shot to the keeper’s right and sneaked in..1-2.
The goal buoyed  the candy stripes on and gave us the extra impetus we needed to push for the equaliser.  Villa were still causing some anxious moments at the back but Jacko, Evan and Adam Boylan made sure that’s all they were.  Our goalkeeper Troy O’Brien  player of the year two seasons ago reminded people just why he won that trophy!!.
The Johnstown midfield probably with the hardest job of all were sublime in their balance of offensive work and support to our defence. then a high ball just inside the villa box looked tame enough until Adam Quinn first on the scene flicked a perfectly weighted ball high and well out of the keeper’s reach into the top corner 2-2.
The lads gathered in mass celebration understandably for their just reward. With 9 mins left the coaching staff were getting the message across to the team to keep the pressure on and keep it tight and compact.
Fresh legs in  Rhys Connolly and Clarkey came on to replace the exhausted warriors in midfield  Riley and Ciaran Vaughan.  With 5 min left there was a scramble of players on the Johnstown goalline in which the ref blow a half hearted whistle to indicate the ball crossed the line and so the score stayed 2-3
No question of the commitment of the Johnstown lads who had a precious point within their grab but was so cruelly pinched carelessly from their back pocket.
Well done lads on 100% Commitment and determination, roll on next week.

U14 Premier Match Report 3rd September 2016

U14s Premier Johnstown 2 – Park villa 2.
In very wet conditions Johnstown opened their season in a hotly contested local derby against Parkvilla.  With some players, playing out of position it took Johnstown a while to get going, heads went down a little when villa beat our defence down the middle to slot home and then a second  came there way via a corner.
Two nil down at halftime, we knew we would have the bit of breeze at our backs, and it wasn’t long before Adam Quinn looped the ball over the villa keeper to rally the crowd.
Some more chances from Johnstown had Parkvilla rattled and the intensity in the crowd was at fever point.  It was only a matter of time and then it came low ball across Adam again in the right place 2-2 game on.
Johnstown strained every sinew and can not question their commitment in looking for the win but alas mister time was on villas side!!.
A faster start next time should put us in a good place well done all.

U14 Match Report 19 March 16

Johnstown 3 Parkvilla 2

Johnstown went into this game against league favorites Park Villa on the back of a hard fought win the previous week. In the early stages both teams went close to breaking the deadlock, villa keeper parried a Vilnis drive from 12 yards and at the other end Johnstown keeper Makinde produce a brilliant double save, which resulted in home keeper diving bravely at the feet of the on rushing forward.
Both sides threatened to score, but midway through the 1st half the away side drew 1st blood, a free kick taken quickly from 25 yards caught the home keeper off his line. Parkvilla began to dominate possession and looked the more likely to score again, but the Johnstown defence held firm through solid play from center pairing McQuillan and Hill. The Johnstown team showed great character and just before half time they where rewarded for their hard work, Lee showed great determination by disposing the villa winger, he quickly put Johnstown on attack, clever play by Byrne on the right put Vilnis through on goal who coolly finished in the bottom left corner.
HT 1-1
Johnstown started the the second half how they finished the 1st, the home side began dominating possession with midfield trio Kelly, Taylor and Gorman pulling the strings, Vilnis confidence was up and was unlucky not to score again, both Gorman and Burton where also denied by the inform Villa keeper. With the game still poised Makinde came to the rescue again when we pulled off a wonderful save to claw away a rare Villa attack. Eventually Johnstown’s dominance paid off, good work on the left from Burton forced a corner and the resulting set piece from Taylor caused confusion when it eventually fell to Gorman who fired Johnstown into the lead. Johnstown went in search of a third, good link up play between Byrne and Burton who played to Vilnis, he broke through the Villa rearguard and was unlucky not to score when his brilliant chip hit the bar.
Villa pressed for an equalizer and with 15 minutes remaining, the away side scored, excellent strike from the edge of the box, turning the game on its head, putting their title challenge back on track. However Johnstown rallied and introduced Suchan and Healy to inject some fresh legs to the team, with minutes remaining Johnstown got the deserved winner, excellent pressing from Suchan, forced a Villa mistake and it was Vilnis who punished the away side to blast Johnstown to victory.
FT 3-2

Team: Damisola Makinde, David Lee, Kyle O Hara, Josh Hill, Andrew Mcquillan, Benji Taylor, Ryan Kelly, Daniel Gorman, Conor Byrne, Euan Burton, Nauris Vilnis, Viktor Suchan, Conor Healy.

Under 14s Match Report

Bridge Park 2 Johnstown 3

Johnstown started the game brightly and the should of capitalized on their early possession, only for the home keeper to deny both Vilnis and Byrne. Despite Johnstowns dominance Bridge Park broke the deadlock midway through the 1st half. Johnstown’s backline defended brilliantly to keep the hosts at bay, near the stroke of half time Vilnis was taken down on the edge of the box, Taylor’s resulting free kick cracked the bar but the hard working Gorman smashed home the rebound.
HT 1-1
Johnstown  took the lead early in the 2nd half through a wonder strike by Taylor from 25 yards, this was following good johnstown play assisted by Kelly. The home side would not give up despite Makinde’s efforts they leveled the match with 15 mins to go. Johnstown went in search of a winner, Vilnis, Suchan and Martinho all went close, it seemed all was lost when Kelly popped up to coolly slot home the winner from a healy assist.
