Johnstown 9s and 10 go to Drogheda United

Johnstown U9s & U10s  returned to watch Drogheda Utd last night and seen them get a deserved draw against Bohemians in Hunky Dory Park.

Our players performed a Guard of Honour for the Senior players as they entered the field of play.

Followed by a team photo

They were then treated to a fantastic first half where both teams went at it.  Drogheda would have been very unhappy to go in at half time 2 down but thanks to great goals from their galacicos Keith Tracy, 25 year top corner screamer! and a cool finish from Sean Thornton were level.

At half time Johnstown took to the field for an exhibition match and we’re cheered on by all in the packed crowd.

.

The match finished 2-2 with Bohemians the happier of the 2 teams.

We look forward to returning next year to (hopefully) see some more Airtricty League action.

Big Thanks to Paul Holland (Half time coordinator) for making the arrangements.

Lee Duffy Trains our Under 10s

On Tuesday night our  Under 10 were joined by Drogheda United very own Lee Duffy for training.
Lee spent some time going through drills and ball work to give the guys a flavor of whats its like playing with our local LOI side Drogheda United.
Big thanks to Lee for taking the time out of his busy day, looking forward to seeing you play against Bohs latter on in the month when we will be the Guard of Honour.

Coaching Leagues

This week sees the return of the Coaching League games in the MDL and St Pats.

The Coaching League is non competitive and where our younger players learn all about the basics of the game.  We would like to remind everyone that attends the Coaching League of the following:

  • We encourage positive comments to the children but instruction should only come from their coach.   Please support your coach and cheer your children on.
  • This year there will be referees at all Coaching League games.  This referees are there to insure the rules on how small sided games should be played are adhered too  We ask that all Parents and Managers set a good example and do not question the Referee’s decision.  Also if the safety rules are not adhered too the referee must ask the player to leave the pitch.
  • All Players must wear shin guards.
  • Any player who needs glasses must not wear them on the pitch and they must wear protective Sports Goggles.
  • Photography or Videotaping is not allowed by anyone on the side lines.  The clubs can send their PROs as they are guardi vetted and they must introduce them selves to both managers and referees prior to taking photos
  • No league tables are recorded and scores are not recorded as they as this league is about learning.

Full set of rules for this league is available on the NECSL site here http://www.necsl.ie/coaching-leagues-rules/
Of Course the most important thing for us to say is welcome back to all our young players and enjoy the games !

Help Needed

We need coaches to help with our Academy.  Every year we bring in young players to teach them all about the game  but we can not do that with out your help.  Now is your chance to give back to your community and club we need Coaches so if you can spare an hour every sunday morning to help the kids please get in touch and we will be glad to take you on board.

Under 10s Victory in Torro

Johnstown U10’s won there first trophy  as they won the shield in Torro’s first year’s summer 8’s. It was a cracking final in which they beat Navan Cosmos 2-1. Johnstown took the lead with a great one two from Jordan and Patrick Who then crossed for Byron to volley into the net.

Cosmos hit back with a Nice finish past Keeper Jamie.J/Town had 4 goals disallowed but never stoped pressing for the winner and just when it looked like extra time Patrick Warren hit a stunning long range shot into the top corner. So captain Finn Malone got his hands on the lads first trophy.
