Johnstown U16’s win close shave with Trim

First of all, what a game of football today. Both teams were going hard at it and playing football in the right manner so hats off to both sides. Trim came to the MDL undefeated in the league for the last 4 years, that is some achievement in itsself so fair play. Today was the day that it all changed. Right from the whistle, the JFC lads were up for it, they were on the front foot playing nice football and winning every 2nd ball. It was a sign how this group is growing and starting to believe. The first half was tight and cagey with both teams trying to suss each other out. After the first 25 minutes there wasn’t much between both sides. But, in the last 15 minutes of the half we went up a gear and started getting behind their defence and creating chances. Mikey was taken down in the box but no penalty 🙄 0-0 at halftime with JFC on the front foot.

The 2nd half kicked off and straight away we were buoyed by our strong finish to the first half, and it wasn’t long before we opened up their defence with a great passage of play that ended with Lee firing over. The next 40 minutes of football was a credit to these bunch of lads. We were relentless going forward creating chance after chance, and with the defence dealing with everything with aplomb and the mighty Quinny stepping into goal for the day, (by the way quinny was outstanding),we went forward at will creating but still no finish. Was it going to be one of those days? The answer is no. Evan started the move from left back and knocked a great ball to Ronan out wide left, then Ronan done what Ronan can do, he mesmerised 3 of their players and got to the byline and cut a perfect ball back for Sean McNamee to finish superbly to put us 1,0 up. Well and truly deserved, but did we sit back then? No chance. We opened them up again, and again, on another day we could’ve scored 4, but I will take that result any day.

Brilliant performance by all, man of match Jack O’Brien, followed closely by Evan, Ronan,Quinny,Liam, Mikey, Lee, Kian, Sean, Aaron, Vaughany, Riley, Evan and Nathan. Onwards and upwards c’mon JFC 16s!
