_______________________

One of our best fund raisers year on year out are our bag packs.  This year again thankfully Supervalu Johnstown have given us a weekend to do a bag pack on Friday the 23rd of January from 10am till 9pm and Saturday the 24th from 9am till 6pm.  All we need now is you time!

We need volunteers to Man or Lady the tills and pack bags.  We need one or two hours of your time to help out. With over 300 members in the club if everyone gives an hour will have the Tills permanently stationed.  If we miss a spot it really is money for nothing we are loosing.  So please leave your details on the form bellow and let us know what you can do.

An International Evening in Johnstown

As many of you who follow our website and social media channels will have heard we often celebrate our three International Players success on the pitch.  This of course got us thinking how lucky we are a s a Club are to have such an accolade to celebrate.  So Wednesday week the Friends, Family and some of us from the club gathered in the MDL to celebrate with Amanda, Dylan and James their success.

The event was well supported with The Meath Chronicle, Councillor Tommy Reilly ad FAI Development Officer Mark Scanlon in attendance.  To start of our Chairman Mr Paddy Allen presented each of our three stars a Trophy of congratulations from the club, then a few speeches from Shane, Mark and Tommy.  It was noted by all, how as such a young club celebrating their tenth anniversary this year, what an achievement it is  to have three players who are International Caps and are still all involved in the club.

We look forward to seeing Amanda, Dylan and James develop their game further and wish them ever success in 2015.  The Meath Chronicle have this week published a full page article about the event.

Good Luck Jack

Reserve team captain Jack Conroy is this month representing the Irish Amputee Team at the World Cup in Mexico. It is the first time Ireland have ever had a team at the tournament. They have been drawn in Group A with Brazil, Ukraine and defending world champions Uzbekistan. The team fly out on the 27th and Johnstown FC would like to wish them all the best as it is an honour to have an Irish international within our ranks. You can read more about the team and the tournament here: http://www.thescore.ie/irish-amputee-football-team-1671403-Sep2014/

Pat Hegarty

Congratulations Pat!

Its the big day so please come down at 3pm to support Pat as he Flys the flag for us!

This Sunday sees the official opening of the MDL Fifa One Astro Pitch.  The occasion is being marked by a match between

MDL Over 35 champions Ardee Town (plus guests) v Irish Masters

And our Patrick Hegarty will be one of the guest players on the day.  Pat was chosen from all of the players in the over 35s this year to join Ardee, who won the 0ver 35s League this year.  This a fantastic honour for Pat who was instrumental in the forming of our over 35s this year.  It also shows how his commitment and passion for the game has not just impressed his fellow team mates but also the game officials and the league as he is now guesting with Ardee on the opening day.

So on Sunday if you are free please come down in your club coat and support Pat as he takes on the Masters.  KO is at 3pm in the MDL and all are welcome.

Pitch opening set for 16 November

The end result of six years of planning will be proudly put on show at the MDL grounds on Sunday 16 November at 2.40 when FAI Chief Executive John Delaney will officially unveil the first full sized  FIFA 1 standard All Weather Pitch in County Meath. The Carpet product is called  Edel Future DS and comprises the maximum density of fibres available on the market. After checking out numerous similar type developments throughout the Country in what is a very competitive market with numerous suppliers. The MDL settled for a product which was selectively sourced and installed by Crawford group a Northern Ireland based company with offices in Wexford. The results of an obligatory  independent rigorous test were very encouraging where all aspects of the test achieved the maximum marks available. All Groundworks were completed by a well known and respected  North Meath based firm Michael Rick Plant Hire. In 2008 Floodlights were  installed on the undeveloped grass pitch that was earmarked for what is now the finished product.

The development of this facility  would not have been possible without the help of the North Eastern Counties Schoolboys League who contributed €40,000 to the project. These funds along with €250,000 from a Sports Capital grant, plus €60,000 from our own funds, on top of the €90,000 previously spent on lighting six years ago. There are so many people to thank for their efforts in helping the MDL to deliver the project, especially those that provided assistance to secure the sizable Sports Capital Grant, in particular FAI officials John Delaney, and Richard Fahey, former TD for East Meath, the late Shane McEntee,  Meath West TD’s Ray Butler, and Damien English, Meath County Council representatives Shane Cassells, along with Meath development officer Mark Scanlon.

Christy Kavanagh

Christy Kavanagh wins Last Man Standing

The Johnstown FC Last Man Standing came to a conclusion at the weekend with first team coach Christy Kavanagh emerging victorious.

Going into the weekend both Christy and Eoin Sheridan were left in the competition. Both picked Manchester City and their 2-2 draw with QPR was enough to see Christy win the pot as he still had a life going into the weekend.

Thanks to all who took part, a substantial sum was raised for the club and congratulations to Christy.
