15 Match Report v Oldcastle

Johnstown under 15s got there season underway with a tricky fixture away to Oldcastle,
The lads started the game on the front foot trying to knock the ball around on a bumpy pitch, deservedly we went ahead thanks to Adam Quinn’s reaction from a mistake, 2 minutes later out of know where Oldcastle equalized from a fine strike from there striker from 20 yards.  Qs the half went on Johnstown piled on all the pressure and then got their rewards from a corner.   Ronan sent in a superb cross for Adam to smash home from 12 yards , people say lightning doesn’t strike twice but it did 3 minutes later oldcastle had a corner and the ball was smashed home from the edge of the box to make 2.2 halftime.
The second half started the same as the first, 2 teams having a go and against the run of play Oldcastle scored to make 3.2 to the home team.  Johnstown then picked up a gear and keep peppering Oldcastle’s goal but to no luck, then a bit of brilliance from Ronan got us a penalty.  Adam Quinn stood up to take it to make 3.3 and with that, he got his hat-trick.  Johnstown had opportunities to win in the dying minutes but to no avail and in last minute Alex pulled off a save any goalkeeper in the world would be proud of great to eventually get the season underway JFC15 best players Quinn, O’Brien,Symonds,Walsh,Maxwell,Alex

Under 13 Girls Match Report

After a bad month of March wweather-wise the under 13 Girls finally got their season underway.  We travelled to Monasterboice to face Albion Rovers.

Johnstown quickly got into their stride, attacking the home team from the first whistle.  It took some heroic saves from the Albion ‘keeper to keep the sides level in the opening 15 minutes.  Eventually, the dead lock was broke when Hannah O Brien got through their defence and finished calmly. It was no less than Johnstown deserved for all the hard work they were putting in. Aoibha Grumley added a second not long after with a great strike from just outside the area.  2-0 Johnstown at half time.

The second half started much the same as Johnstown went on attack after attack. Hannah got her second of the afternoon before Albion pulled one back.  The game was real high tempo at this stage with Albion trying to get back into it when Hannah got her third. This was added to soon after by a super finish by Jessie Devoy-Horan to make it 5-1.  A great strike from Aoibha found its way through the unfortunate ‘keepers legs to round of a great day for Johnstown.  A great team performance, where each of the girls really played their socks off.

Final score 6-1 to Johnstown.

Volunteers Needed

Every week over 300 children train and play for our club.  But we can not continue to serve our community with our your help.

We currently need some new coaches and if you a few hours a week to spare then drop us a line and we can get the ball rolling.  Volunteering has its rewards and it is great to see our children be happy thanks to a few volunteers.  So if you are willing to help sustain our club and help your children get in touch
