Under 12 Shield Match Report

JOHNSTOWN 2   Kingscourt 1

Johnstown started this home game well putting pressure on Kingscourt from early.  Craig Gafney  was full of beans with his marauding runs down the left which gave the impetus for Johnstown to pressure their back line.

It wasn’t long before ciaran Vaughan latched on to a loose ball on the left with some skill to beat the defender and calmly slot it home. Johnstown seemed to be in charge after that and passed the ball around with confidence.

Second half Kingscourt came out battling and put the back four under a lot of pressure. With some focus levels dropped Kingscourt equalised.  A quick break from Maxwell nearly earned dividends but was foiled at the last minute from good defending.

The johnstown goalie  Troy kept  the score level with point blank saves and good off the line reflexes….

Johnstown winner came courtesy of Adam Quinn. Adam was quick to pounce to make up for a disallowed goal earlier.  After Jack O Brien gave a sweet little dink into the Kingscourt box.

WELL DONE TO ALL THE PLAYERS FOR THEIR EFFORT.

Under 16s Match Report V Oldcastle

Oldcastle A 1-4 Johnstown.

This was a top of the table clash and Johnstown took control of this game from the start pressing forward and pinning Oldcastle in their own half.  Johnstown then went 1-0 up with a well taken goal by Cian Swaine.  The second goal was scored by the most unlikely source when Johnstowns goalkeeper Eoin Mcallister took a kick out and went in over the Oldcastles goalkeepers head despite getting a strong hand on it.  Two more goals followed, one was a very well struck shot by Clayton O’Sullivan and the other a brilliant header by Jess Justa. That left Johnstown 4-0 up at half time.

As much as Oldcastle piled on the pressure in the second half to reduce the score line, the Johnstown team kept them at bay.  Johnstown could’ve increased there lead only to see shots by mark Rafferty and Clayton hit the crossbar and post.  Oldcastle did pull one back late in the game which is a reward for all the pressure they put Johnstown under in the second half.

This was a fantastic squad performance by all the Johnstown players at the weekend, Well done all

12s Cup Match V Kells

U12s cup 2nd round.

Johnstown 0

Kells 2

This cup game brought together division 1 top against Premier top.

From the early exchanges Kells got into the game at a fast pace.  The Johnstown midfield were very busy keeping track of the fast inter link play of the Kells team. Ciaran Vaughan showed alot of technique as the game went on in trying  to release Adam Quinn for one of Johnstown’s trademark breaks. With a loose ball out to the Johnstown right Kells pounced to whip a low ball back in to which a unfortunate knock in by the Kells midfielder to make 0-1 for the visitors, johnstown fought back when Adam Quinn broke the Kells defence only to take the paint from the Kells post to go wide.

The second half Johnstown had few chances but to be fair alot of their great effort was in repelling the Kells midfield in attacking. A slight mistake from the Johnstown defence led to a soft goal for the Kells second..

On another  day this fantastic Johnstown team with better luck would have more of a chance.  All the same not bad for a team 3 weeks without a match.  Good luck to Kells in the cup.

Match Report 16s V Oldcastle

Oldcastle B 3-10 Johnstown.

As the score line suggests Johnstown ran out comfortable winners of this game. To Oldcastles credit they scored first but Johnstowns response was immediate with a well taken goal by Mark Rafferty. Johnstown went in 3-1 ahead at half time with goals from mark Rafferty Cian swaine and Ross Shivmangal. The pitch in this game was a major factor to the flow of the game as it was soft and heavy.

Johnstown up’d their game in the second  half with two goals from Johnny hand and two goals from Jess Justa. To Oldcastles credit they scored two late consolation goals. With only a few minutes to go Johnstown were awarded a free kick right outside the penalty area. And with their free taker mark Rafferty having to come off injured, Dan “the man” Taylor took control of the situation and fiercely struck the free kick low and hard into the left hand corner to score his first goal ever for Johnstown!

Well done to all great performance.

Johnstown FC Senior Reserves 2014-2015

Match Report 2nds V 3rds

Yesterday saw the clash of the two Johnstown teams in the reserve cup.

Johnstown 2nds hosted Johnstown 3rds in a windy MDL. It was the 2nds who took an early lead after good play down the left from Wayne Cahill set up Alan Burke to slot home.  On the half hour mark Cahill got a quick fire double to send the 2nds in to 3-0 lead.
The second half saw some good play from both teams with changes few and far between.  The 3rds center half paring of  Barry halpin and Kevin McQuillan restricted the 2nds to long range efforts with Keith mangan rarely troubled in the 2nds goal. Johnstown 2nds saw out the game to advance to the quarter final.
The game was played in a competitive but fair manner and it was a credit to both teams and the club.
