Under 15s Match Report 8th October 2016

Johnstown 1 Cloghertown 1

Johnstown started well and dominated proceedings but failed to capitalize on their early possession, as Johnstown pushed forward they isolated the Johnstown rear guard to the counter attack but excellent last ditch tackles from Hill, Colton and surperb save by McQuillan kept the scoreline at 0-0. With 25 minutes on the clock the away slide where awarded a penalty, unintentional hand ball, Cloghertown coolly slotted home to put them in front. This gave the away side the momentum to push for a second but the Johnstown defense held firm until half-time.
HT 0-1
In the 2nd half, Johnstown started much better and the introduction of substitutes Hanney, Burton and Kavanagh allowed Johnstown to grab a foothold on the game. The home pushed for an equalizer, but a combination of poor finishing and excellent goalkeeping keep the scoreline in favor of the visitors. With the game heading to the final stages, excellent work from the tireless Byrne on the right, allowed him to whip in a perfect cross for Hanney to nod into the net at close range. Johnstown looked the more likely to get the winner, however a rare attack from Cloghertown near the end was brilliantly denied by the the Johnstown keeper, Andrew Mcquillan.
