Johnstown F.C. are delighted to announce and congratulate Eoin Sheridan as the new manager of our senior team for 2020. Eoin was one of the founding members of the club and has been a dedicated player and coach for our club since its inception. Eoin has always shown great dedication to everything he puts himself forward for and always gives 100%. We look forward to watching him bring our seniors forward in 2020 and wish him and everyone involved the best of luck!
It is with this appointment we also must pay a huge debt of gratitude to Christy Kavanagh & Fergal Berine for their guidance in the senior setup for the past number of years. Christy and Fergal have worked tirelessly over the past seasons and we thank them both for their unwavering commitment to Johnstown F.C. They will be a big loss to the senior setup but we know they will continue their involvement in the club and will always be there to support Johnstown F.C.

On Saturday the club held its annual senior presentation night in O’Briens Johnstown. We also took the chance to run a fundraiser with the help of Salina’s Musical Bingo. It was an extremely enjoyable night and thanks to all who attended. A big shoutout must go to the seniors and U12’s & U14’s girls parents who stayed and supported the club and everyone else who attended.
Also a huge thanks to all managers and club members who sourced spot prizes for the bingo and raffle on the night. The club really appreciates all the generosity of local businesses in supplying these prizes.
On the night there were a number of awards handed out over the two seniors teams for the season just past.

It was a busy weekend for Johnstown FC, starting with both our U16 Boys and U14 girls in cup final action up in the MDL on Saturday. On Sunday it was great to see the Peoples Park buzzing with activity with our Academy again in situ honing their skills in the heart of their community.
U14s
On Saturday first up we had our U14 girls coming up against our local rivals Parkvilla in the Colm Duffy Cup Final. This game handed us the template for the day in store for the Johnstown FC teams. It was an extremely tight affair with both Navan teams locked together after full time. Being a lovely day for football spectators were treated to extra time, but yet again both teams were in-separable after additional time with the game finishing 4 – 4. The game would be decided from the spot. Alas, it wasn’t to be for Johnstown FC Girls as it finished 4 – 2 after penalties. The Girls and their coaches can hold their heads high after a valiant effort on the day and great football being played throughout the year.
U16
In our second game of interest, the U16s came through a hard found battle against Kingscourt in the John Harte Cup final. Again the game was tight afair in the regulation 90″, with Kingscourt finishing the game with 10 men and the sides level at 0 – 0. Into extra time we went with Johnstown striking the first blow with a great effort going in off the underside of the crossbar. The Kingscourt team were resilient even with the numbers disadvantage and levelled the game before the first half was up in extra time. After over 100 minutes of football, the sides were inseparable. This group of lads showed their huge fighting spirit and kicked on after the break going 2-1 and then 3-1 up. They are a credit to the club themselves and their families after the turbulent year they’ve had. There were some lovely words shared after the final whistle mentioning their teammate Mikey Leddy. Congrats to the lads and the coaches on this well-deserved win. Some pictures and highlights below…
Academy
On Sunday we had a great turn out with nearly 30 kids in attendance for our Academy training at noon. It great to see the little ones enjoying themselves playing football with Johnstown. It is also great to see our coaches giving their time and effort but we are always looking for another pair of hands so if you are interested please get in touch with the page and we will start you off on your coaching journey.
We hope to see an even bigger number of kids in the park at 12 next Sunday. Until then…
Johnstown Fc is delighted to announce that we will be returning to the people’s park to train some of the underage teams.
It has been a long time coming and we would like to thank Alan Lawes and JPP for all their hard work in getting this lined up.
This coming Sunday we will have our Academy training in the park from 12PM. It will be great to see the kids of Johnstown playing in their own community. If you are passing by come and show your support.
It is with great sadness our own Mikey Leddy has passed away this afternoon, the tragic event that has happened in the last 48 hours has shocked us all.
We would ask that everyone remembers Mikey for the champion he was and his fighting spirit. He will be with us in our minds and spirit forever.
Thank You!! To all our JFC members and families that joined us on our Family Fun day, we are delighted that you braved the elements to join us and made the best of the day. The arrival of the FAI and special guests made the day memorable for all the right reasons. We hope you met some of your footballing idols.
The day would not have ran without the continued support of the club Volunteers that dedicate their time, energy and commitment to provide our community this superb sporting opportunity, for this a big thanks goes out to all our coaches and mangers. Also special word of thanks goes out to Morris for putting in a huge effort in planning the running order on the day. It is great to have community members that would drop their Sunday morning activities at short notice to come help us out and a special word of thanks to Steve Wallace for sorting out our electrical problem. We also want to thank Simon McMahon for coming out to referee the senior charity match.
Finally, a big thank you to businesses that supported the day: Navan Hire, Hardware & Plumb Centre for opening on a Sunday for parts when we were badly stuck, MG Audio in Navan, our Bouncing Castles from All Seasons Party Hire (John Power) and especially the continued support we get from the MDL and grounds staff. We look forward to seeing you all soon at our next club event. In the meantime, continue to enjoy your soccer with Johnstown FC.
This weekend both seniors teams travelled away to Newtown, Friday night for the first and Saturday for the reserves. Newtown got the better of both depleted Johnstown squads. Newtown where good value for their win on Friday with a comprehensive 3-0 win for the home side. It was a tough 1st half for the visitors going in 3-0 down. Johnstown battled hard in the second half but couldn’t make any inroads on the home sides advantage.
Things started much better for Johnstown on Saturday going 2-0 up, Danny Fon with both goals. The tides turned in the second half with Newtown scoring three on the bounce and running out winners.
The seniors will regroup at training on Tuesday and hope to bounce back against BJD at home Thursday and Friday away to Donnacarny FC.
