Parents and Supporters
Sport for young people is about Fun and Participation, best effort and Fair Play in a Safe environment.
The Code of Conduct and Good Practice for Parents/Guardians in Football provides guidance for those involved in the sport. The Irish Football Association (FAI) wants to ensure football is safe, and fun and takes place in the spirit of fair play. Parents, coaches, and administrators have a vital role to play in promoting good practice in children’s sports. Focusing on individual participants’ needs encourages young people to achieve and demonstrate enjoyment, equality and fair play. Parents and guardians should:
- Encourage participation and fun
- Emphasise and praise effort.
- Be positive or be quiet, negative comments are counterproductive.
- Promote and demonstrate FAIR PLAY, for other parents, coaches and referees.
- Lead by example.
- Support the coach’s and referee’s decisions
- Offer to help, washing kit or carrying gear.
- Make an effort to attend training and games.
